I am running:
Ubuntu 10.10
HP Mini 311

I am a linux noob.

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 a few days ago, and several times since then.
My sound is very low, i have used alsamixer to set my volumes to max, but sound is low.
My touchpad is detected as
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse id=12 [slave pointer (2)]

The touchpad is also very very sensitive, i dont have nor want a external mouse.

I have spent the last 2 days reading all over the net about fixing my problems, it seems folks have sorted there issues but i cant seem to figure it out.

Please help, i want to keep using Ubuntu to learn Linux but thses problems are driving me nuts.

Thanks.

Go to System>Preferences>Mouse, that should solve your senstivity problems. While your at it, under the same menu go to sound and check that. Some times Apps have different volume controls than the OS.

Thanks for the reply.

The touchpad is showing as a ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse, so no sensitivity adjustments.

As for the sound i am testing the sound directly from sound preferences, the sound is too low there (i have it set to max), so the issue is not application specific.

I need a way to have my touchpad detected as a touchpad and not a ImPS/2 mouse.
I need a way to get my main volume to go a bit higher so i can hear it.

Again thank you, for your reply.
