Lubuntu, 'official' or not?

"The ultimate goal of the lubuntu project is to earn official endorsement from Canonical", reads their web site.

What is the significance of this? I mean, will there be any change in development, bug fixing or the like, if they turn 'official'?

I'm wondering if official would just give them more credibility as a desktop? Just my thoughts. Having Canonical say we approve you goes a long way in getting folks to use your product.
