Has anyone tried to install Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter with wine yet?
Wanted to give it a try in the next day, or two, but thought I'd ask if someone here might have tried it out already??

I haven't tried it in Wine, but my guess is that it would fail miserably. If it did actually worked, I'd be shocked if it actually had a slideshow performance. I have a nVidia 6800GT, 3gb of RAM, an AMD64 3200+ and it won't even allow me to select any resolution above 1388x1024 or some weird thing like that. Not only that, but I had to lower the resolution down to 1024x768 to even play it decently here.
The game is a pig. Though it is the first game I've seen that supports the PhysX PPU. Unfortunately I still have an AGP system, so even if I had the 250-300 bucks to throw away, I still couldn't use a PhysX card. :(

Thanks for the tip: I hadn't had a chance to look up the specs of the game so far. I knew it was an upgrade from the old gr engine, but I didn't know it was such a jump.
Well, I guess I can forget it because my computer's specs are just under yours:
2gb ram
6600gxt (sic)
and I sure as hell ain't going to install xp on one of my partitions. I've been msless for over a year and I'm not going back. Either game companies cater to Linux users are they don't get my business. I was just going to check out the demo but I buy only native ports.
I am waiting patiently for the new version of tce which should come out any week now.

I will say this much, the game isn't all that great. Maybe once mods start coming out... the physics in it are sweet, and the engine is cool, but there aren't that many maps (though the maps are pretty big), and not a large selection of guns. Unfortunately it's much like comparing Lockdown to Raven Shield. It's just not as good as the original Ghost Recon. I really wish they'd take all the greatness of Ghost Recon and Raven Shield and just update the engines with new maps/weapons. That would make me happy.
Though it does have a few cool things in it, like if you're running you can hit the crouch or lay down keey and just hit the dirt when an enemy is firing at you.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just built a new rig and the game came with it as a "bundle" so I wanted to give it a shot. I installed it and all that, but typing wine GRAW.exe does nothing. No errors, no game, nothing.
Any ideas?

This is a very resource intensive game...and it uses the latest physics and DirectX technology...on top of what is basically an Unreal engine.
Maybe Cedega will get it to install, but I doubt it will run.
What you could try is:
1. Use Wine to install the physics driver.
2. Use Wine to install the latest direct X (you are not supposed to do this!)
3. Change the Wine version to XP.
4. Try to install it.
If the CDs won't load the game, try copying all content to a folder and installing from there.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.
