I installed ubuntu server 10.10 to a server on my local network three days ago and added gnome to it. I have been using both remote desktop and SSH to connect to the box without incident. Today, however, when trying to login through remote desktop, the gnome screensaver wouldn't accept my password.
I checked to make sure caps-lock was off.
I SSH'ed into the box and changed the password, with no luck.
I removed and reinstalled the screensaver
I ultimately killed the screensaver process and am back in business with remote desktop, but would prefer not to have to do that every time.
This same issue has been popping up for years on the forums, it seems, without clear resolution. Does anyone know what might be going on?
