Ive noticed quite a few threads getting closed because of "Necromancy".

My guess is that the forum servers are overloaded and the moderators find it easier to limit traffic by killing threads that are over 2 years old.

Responding to an old thread can be useful, especially if the original poster (OP) updates the thread with additional information--like how to make changes to a newer distro to get a specific piece of hardware to work.

I think necromancy is frowned upon because only people with special powers can raise the dead.

And you are not one of them.

If a thread is active, it wouldn't be considered necromancy. We usually only close threads that haven't had any activity in over a year. The Cafe is a little different, but we usually won't close a thread that is a year or less old. Many of the 2 and 3 year old threads are reopened by spammers, once the spammers post is removed the thread goes back to sleep and no-one is the worse for it.
