ok, hello to all

Im totally new to ubuntu and linux and I have go a problem I downloaded Ubuntu to a CD, and I wanted to put it on my old Compaq preseario 1600 but when I attempt to start up from the CD this following message shows up after a while

"base address not set - upgrade BIOS or use force_addr=0xaddr"

what can I do?

hope someone can help me out because I´m really excited to star using Ubuntu

What are the specifications of your system? Most importantly the cpu and amount of ram.

You are getting the error message because you have an old system, but that isn't the reason it isn't booting.
