Hi guys I recently heard about trinity and I wanted to install it as I like kde3. But I run gnome now. So if I add the repository and install it will I have kde3 up and running or do I need a kubuntu/kde system?

After installing trinity and all the packages with it,

System > Admin > Login Screen

and choose trinity as default session and I assume everything should work.

You will be able to install them side by side and select the desktop at the login screen. However, if you keep GNOME installed the menu on Trinity will be full of GTK applications and the menu in GNOME will be full of QT3 applications. It's a bit cluttered.
