HP2035 Monitor with Linux

I've got a HP2035 and I'm using it with Ubuntu 10.10 but the max. resolution is just 1024x786 instead of 1600x1400. I can get a higher resolution with the same video card and another monitor and also with the current combination and under windows i get a resolution of 1600x1400. Can anybody help me how to solve this issue under Linux?
By the way, the monitor is connected over VGA there is no DVI available at the video card.
