has anyone tried the enemy territory mods like enemy territory fortress and total combat? i am downloading them now, just wondering if anyone liked them. since enemey territory is free i was attempting to see if any of the total conversion mods were any good. i am not a huge fan of enemy territory(i like to deathmatch and CTF!!).

I've run both ETF and True Combat - both are very playable and seem stable. TC is only in pre-release state but is stable and has a good gameplay. The first release of ETF was OK but there was some issues with the Snipers being far too powerful a class - that may have been resolved as they are releasing quite regularly. TC does the opposite Snipers are a very difficult class to use...
I imagine you'll enjoy TC - it's generally Last Man Standing kind of stuff with some added objectives (you win if you're the LMS even without completing the objectives.)...

I've only tried ETF, and quite frankly, I don't like it. I gave it an honest try, playing several matches with it, but it just wasn't as interesting as regular Enemy Territory. I'm still addicted to ET. :D

etf is pretty hard to get used to - it's a little too fast and some of the weapons seem too low powered or over-powered meaning it's difficult to play properly. There's some good maps out there though but some of the standard ones are rather boring when compared to the sheer class of most of the ET maps.
I've played True Combat some more and there's some really good stuff in it. More maps are needed but when there is a thriving community behind it, it'll be a serious contender for being a topnotch mod.

ETF feels too much like Q3 Weapons Factory Arena -- with more of the same old boring gameplay (not to mention the same old weapons). All of the newer WF / Fortress mods only make me miss Weapons Factory UT. :|
True Combat is pretty nice, though. I'm still waiting for the Urban Terror port as well.

Have you heard any news on hte urban terror port of ET?
I was a big urban terror fan and our clan had a pretty big group of players for it but in time everyone has moved on to something else. I just keep playing Quake3. I love that game.

Hi!
I tried both ETF and TC: Elite. ETF is like Quake 3 Arena, but as they said above, a bit unbalanced. I have been told that the last update fixed most of these issues (like fixing a too-powerful sniper rifle).
TC: Elite is really cool. But it is a "Last man standing" kind of game, so I think you won't like it much if you don't like ET. The graphics and gameplay are very realistic, though. I also look forward for the Urban terror port

I also played urban terror. This was the only game I ever played in a clan. I played it during the summer a couple of years back. I am really looking forward to the ET version.
I've just tried TC:E. It rules !!!! IMO It's the best online multiplayer tactical shooter..

I've been playing a TON of etf lately... Fun, fun game. I like to pick on the snipers because I hate them.
Cheers,
