After about a day of frustration I still cant seem to figure out how to set a custom resolution mode so that my desktop fills the screen. I am not a newb to linux, but am far from an expert. So far i have the nvidia drivers for my pc, have tried using xrandr to make a custom mode, and tried editing the xorg file but that only got me to a command line only on boot and had to reinstall linux because i couldnt boot into the normal GUI . What i need to do is set a custom mode for a resolution of 1820x1024. And no there is no overscan compensation on my tv, im using a mitsu 46" lcd thats a couple years old. The funny thing is when i use the dvi connection there is a slider to compensate for overscan but not with hdmi! how frustrating! any help would be greatly appreciated!
