It is my first time to use linux system. As I said my ubuntu often crashes when I was typing. I don't know why. The version of my ubuntu is 64 bit ubuntu 10.10. I don't know what more information I should provide. But I will write it down as soon as possible if you want to ask a detailed information. Thanks a lot!

kobeallen,

Welcome to the Forums!

Is your computer a laptop, or a desktop?

What program were you working in and typing when it crashes? (OpenOffice Writer, LibreOffice Writer).

How much RAM does your computer have?

Thanks,

The Hedge

What video card do you have? and what exactly do you mean "crash"?

I think in windows, that would mean a bsod, not sure what you mean though.

If it's a laptop, check to see if it is getting uncomfortably warm while you are using it.

There's no reason why simply typing should crash a PC. That puts almost no load on the system.

But, if it is crashing frequently, there is something else wrong -- and overheating is a common problem with laptops running an OS other than the one they came with.

I have AIT video card with 512MB. The crash means that the mouse can move but I cannot open or click anything.

kobeallen,

Thanks for the extra information. When the mouse still moves, but nothing will respond (can't click anything, nothing will open/close) that is most often referred to as 'hanging' rather than a 'crash'. But now we understand.

So you have plenty of memory, a nice video card and based on what you have said I don't think your keyboard has any electronic issue.

The hanging is happening not because of your typing, but because of something in the background that is eating up all your system resources. Most often I have seen this caused by network issues (and if you are typing a message in the FireFox web browser or surfing the web in ForeFox, that seems most likely).

I think the most logical thing to do is look at your network connection.

So, some more questions:

Are you using a wireless connection? What is the wireless device in your laptop? Are you able to tell us what driver the device is using?

We will try these questions and see what we can find.
