cat /dev/video0 invalid argument

Getting "invalid argument" when doing:
cat /dev/video0
The webcam is at /dev/video0 and it works fine with applications such as skype. lsusb shows the camera. It's a Logitech C905 and OS is Ubuntu 10.10. Any ideas?

I'm trying to run the code found here: http://manydemons.com/blog/category/languages/java/#codesyntax_1 in java. I'm getting an invalid argument error though when trying to grab the data from /dev/video0. I get the same error when trying to just cat in a shell so I feel as though it's related.
