I have a Venus T4S 4-disk storage box, which uses a Silicon Image 4726 controller, and was previously working an a Linux box with a PCI-E Silicon Image 3132 based host controller. I want to move the storage box to another linux box which has only PCI, not PCI-E, so my existing host controller will not work. Questions:

1) I know the arrangement involves port multiplier support, which I don't understand very well. On the new linux box, do I need a host SATA controller with port multiplier support, like my existing Sil3132 based card, or is the port multiplier support in the 4726 in the storage box, such that I can attach to any eSATA port on the linux host?

2) If I need a special host controller card, can someone recommend a suitable PCI (not PCI-E) card?

3) What are the linux modules that must be loaded to support the Sil4726 and/or 3132?

Thx, Gus
