Whilst rummaging through my junk drawer today I found my old phone, a Blackberry Curve from 2008. I know nothing about the software, or the hardware for that matter but I had a thought. What if there was a way to take off the existing OS and install some form of linux. I'm not looking to use it as a phone, just as a small word processor/text editor, maybe to hold a few songs, and possibly take pictures. Thus I have two questions:

1. Is this even really possible?
2. If so, how?

This is just a for-fun project, so if not than it's all good.

I'm not aware of anyone running a custom firmware/OS on these.

perhaps a little googling might help? i'm pretty sure there are blackberry hacking sites around that'll be loaded with information on how to modify your device.

I looked around before I posted my response and only saw quite trivial hacks like changing what port the browser uses. I didn't see any reports of installing a 3rd party OS/firmware.
