So, I ended up with a laptop as a hand-me-down from a friend, and I decided to try Linux, settled on Ubuntu, and went off to install it. It ran well from the Live CD. Once it was installed however... things changed.

Within maybe twenty seconds, the thing seizes. The screen becomes a jumble of red and bluish lines, overlapping the desktop, and not a thing works. This RARELY happens in Windows XP (which I would like to leave), though when it does, it seems to be heat related. However, these seizes happen even when it has been cooled.

I don't have the laptop at the moment but I can post specs if need be.

Thank you,
Alice
