Hi,
Is there a way to display files on the desktop as a folder. By that I mean having the same views as a folder: sorting as list, icons, compact... etc?

Yes, look in /home/USERNAME/Desktop.

You can click "Places" on the menu bar and select "Desktop", or in a terminal the location is
cd ~/Desktop/
Then sort to your heart's desire

Yes, you should go to your home folder in the places menu then click on desktop. Have fun sorting!

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I had a little trouble explaining what I wanted. Thanks for the link, I just read through the thread quickly and will give it a go shortly. :)

If you right click the desktop you get a menu. If you select Organize Desktop by Name then all the icons on the desktop will re-arrange in alphabetical order. Is this what you are looking for?
Regards.
