I want to install Ubuntu, but I don't have enough room on my laptop. The only thing I can afford is an external hard disk drive; would I be able to install Ubuntu on an external hard disk drive? If I did, would I have internet connection? I have WiFi, with a Linksys router attached to another computer. Would I have to install anything to get it working on Ubuntu?

Hi.
Welcome to the Ubuntu Forums. Yes, it is easy to do what you want. This recent thread has the links you need, so read, and if you get stuck, come back :D

Hello,

I followed these instructions over a month ago with good results.

There are some slight changes because 10.10 installer is slightly different than 10.04.
Be sure to place grub on the HDD if you want the option of pulling the usb plug and booting directly into windows.
