strage sound coming out of speakers

Hello, i have some old Compaq speakers, and a "hissing" noise comes out of them at random times, i use them all the time because my built in speakers from my netbook, just fail when it comes to music/videos/games.
I was using them for windows and they didnt do it then...

Try typing "alsa-mixer" in a terminal and fiddling with the different levels there. You come out of it by using the "esc" key.

well i changed it to 80 and so far no sound problems (although, it does it random) ill post back here if it does it again
