I want to set up a home / file / torrent / web / print server at home. I am using a
dell optiplex gx240 and my printer is a Epson dx8400. I was wondering if it is possible to use the printer and scanner connected to the server. Has anyone done this before? I hope to print from any computer in my house. Scanning would probably be the hardest part I guess.

Printing would be easy - just use CUPS, or samba to share it - depending on your client machines.

CUPS is probably a more involved configuration (not that samba is a breeze) but I would think it would result in a better print system than just straight samba.

No clue on scanning tho, never tried to do that thru a scanner that wasn't directly on the network - as in it works well if the printer is network aware, but I'm not sure how doable it is on a printer that's shared thru another machine.

Oy, I even made sure it didn't submit a dupe before hitting submit again...

I guess lesson learned, only hit submit once. No matter what!

Sorry for the dupe post... :-x
