IPV6 supports far more network address then what IPV4 can support. IPV4 is starting to reach its limit to how many possible ip addresses can be assigned. To the point, IPV6 is not supported with many of the network products out there. i.e. consumer grade routers etc. When passing info including IPV6 info to a router that does not know how to read and address this info, it will take longer as it needs to filter out and read the data it can support i.e. IPV4. In other words, by disabling IPV6 support, it would not require for the device to take more time to try and read the info it can not support. So it will speed up your network speeds. Sorry if my post sounds confusing. I am not the best at explaining things with words.

i installed the official firefox following the wiki (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FirefoxNewVersion)...and disabled ipv6
from about:config
network.dns.diableIPV6 ==> true
network.http.pipelining ==> true
network.http.proxy.pipelining ==> true
network.http.proxy.pipelining.maxrequests ...value to 20 from 4...
its great now... and now lightning faster.... amazingly faster...!!!

Hi everyone! There are several other stuff you may configure in about:config for more speed!!
First up:
network.http.pipelining
Should be set for TRUE, not false!
Depending on how fast network connection you have...you may change the following settings to a higher number, I have choosen to just double them:
network.http.max-connections
network.http.max-connections-per-server
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
1 Don't use this one if you have a slow computer.
1.1 Push the right button in anywhere in he about:config page.
1.2 Choose New->Integer
1.3 Enter the preference name: nglayout.initialpaint.delay
1.4 OK
1.5 Set the integervalue to: 0
1.6 This will make the browser show the contents of the page as soon as they come in, instead of waiting for more content - this will speed the browsing very nice! It may be necessary to restart the browser to enable this one...

this is actualy a bug!
to go around it in a general way for all applications:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WebBrowsingSlowIPv6IPv4?highlight=%28ipv6%29
please comment on that bugzilla bug:

You have to be careful with these though, as some of them makes your browser hammer webservers. If everyone did this, the web would be a lot slower than if everyone kept at their current speeds.
One thing to look at is fasterfox (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1269/). It's got various options to speed up your browsing while still adhering to the standards.

Do a search on the forum for IPV6 and there will be some other tricks to disable IPV6 from your system itself. http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=87798&highlight=IPV6
