I have a mysql database which is currently hosted in a datacenter on a shared platform. The database is accessed by around 200 users spread across 14 locations. We have decided to move to an mpls network and to bring this database back onto an in-house server. Ubuntu seems to be a good server os. Would anyone have any views on what hardware configuration would best suit?

for just 200 users Intel Xeon or even a core2duo would be enough with a good amount of ram. You need to figure out the transaction per day. As far as the hard disk is concerned i recommend Solid State Drives.

Go for a rack mountable server, 1U. If you were in India i would have helped you in that.

Any way Good Luck!!!!!!!
