Hi All
I have a 80Gb blank HDD onto which I was going to install 10.10 from a live CD. It gets as far as the partition section but all the partitioning options are greyed out. Below that is a box which shows the HDD, /dev/sda but clicking on that appears to do nothing. If I click on next I get an error message saying root file system cannot be installed.

Any ideas anyone?

Welcome to UF :-)
You say that you have a blank HDD. Has the disc been formatted by a Mac? Has the disc been used as part of a raid array at any time? Were partitions created on that disc at any time, and if so, how were they deleted? Thanks.

hi and welcome, if you want to install 10.10 on the whole hdd then you dont need to define partitions unless you want to manually define a separate home partition etc....you should just (before you get to this stage) be able to tell the installer to install on the entire drive.

Edit ->Quackers is here, I can butt out ;-)
