Hi guys. So I've been trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop. However, every way I try (CD, DVD, flash drive) I get the same error:

Can not mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squash

However, when I run the LiveCD I received in a book about coding, it boots up fine. Has anyone had this issue or know how to fix it?

Errr...sorry, I don't understand. When he says he used an old HP cd, is he implying that the brand of the CD makes a difference? Because I tried both a CDR and a DVD as well as a flash drive =/

Sounds like you might have got a dodgy download. You might want to check the md5sum (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM) on the .ISO you downloaded.

Torrent most reliable. Find under 'alternative installers' on the 'Get Ubuntu' page.

THANK YOU. Downloaded from a torrent, burned it to a DVD, and it worked fine. Posting from it now. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

FANTASTIC! Enjoy your new OS and the learning curve, welcome to the forums. Don't forget to post a new thread for any other probs. You can post a link to it here.

Mark as 'solved' with 'thread tools', top right. ;)
