So, I currently have a Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 duel boot on a side by side configuration on my HDD. I have W7 taking up the majority of space on the HDD's memory.

I have a couple of questions:

1. if I make Ubuntu my sole operating system on my computer and use a VM to run W7, can I still use my Windows 7 product key, or do I need a new one in order to run on a VM.

2. If I decide to upgrade 10.10 to 11.04 in April, I would prefer doing so as a clean install while keeping my W7 partition untouched, how can I go about doing this?

Thanks for the advice folks :) I'm new to Ubuntu and am still learning my way around the OS, but I love it so far!

1. you'll need a new one - re-read the license (part 3:d)
2.in the installation process when it comes to partitioning, choose 'manually partition' and select the partition on with you want to install (i.e. old ubuntu partition)

1. You can keep the same key.

2. You need to go into Windows 7 and defrag then shrink the volume from inside there to make some space for Ubuntu.
