Upgrade to 10.04 LTS, the latest Long Term Release.

You should remember to provide MUCH more detail in your threads. A descriptive thread title, and in this case, wireless card if you know it. ;)

Welcome to the forums. If you are new to Ubuntu and have only just installed, install 10.04 instead as this OS improves all the time. 9.10 is October, 2009 and will run out of support in October 2011. 10.04 support = April, 2013. 10.04 LTS Server = 2015. :)

atheros ar8132 is what i think it is... i used to dual boot this machine with windows7 and ubuntu/kubuntu but it got crazy buggy so I wiped off windows and started fresh with just the original ubuntu release I started with. the dropping wireless was happening when i was dual booting as well with maverick meerkat. So I'm curious if I need to replace my network card or is it a driver issue :( sorry if it all seems ignorant
