Black Screen of Death

I'm dual trying to dual boot Ubuntu 10.10 on my relatively new laptop with Windows 7. I used the install in Windows option, and when I did the restart and selected Boot Ubuntu, I got a screen with just a _ blinking in the top corner. I don't know how to turn off acpi. HELP

Same problem, for no apparent reason. My Dell laptop went kaflooey.

I don't have a boot disc, so I'm hoping to find some way to bring it back up.

Wubi (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide) is not a Dual-Booting Installation.

To the OP you can override acpi etc. using this guide (the wubi part is a few posts down in the thread). http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132

To the other poster, the link from amjjawad to the wubi megathread is likely what you need (if you have a grub rescue> prompt).
