I recently got an email. I think it's great knowledge about how sometimes we just need to shut up and listen, and how we get so caught up in our own words, that we forget about the words (Un/Spoken) of others. The email said that today I needed to focus on putting myself below everyone else in the room. Today, I needed to be silent, so I wouldn't get so caught up in my own words that I couldn't hear those of others. (I'm signed up for a bunch of philosophical email groups)
So I was thinking, What if we had a holiday for it? I know what you guys are thinking, That's what Christmas is for, but this day wouldn't carry the commercialism or expectancies of Christmas. It would be simply, thinking and trying to be as silent as possible all day and listening to others of course.

I'm thinking:
La Tago al la Sagxon

-or-

The Day of the Wise (In Engish)

Still working on a day and all the ideals held by the holiday, but I think it would be great.

***EDIT: We could use duct tape :-)

Just choose the date and spread it EVERYWHERE in social networks, texts, e-mails... That would work, especially if you know popular people. For instance, Facebook events made can spread like wildfire onces invites are sent out and friends show their friends who show their friends. Good luck! Sounds like a cool idea. :D

Just ask Maulana Karenga. He created Kwanzaa 44 years ago. You can make whatever holiday you want as long as you have a few people to celebrate it with you and you're loud enough about it. ;)

I'd rather have a holiday where everyone was forced to listen to my stories.

You don't need a public holiday for that, you can just do it on your own like many people already do. What's with the herd mentality?

Celebrate it on some other holiday and slowly take it over.
That way people know when it is, and you can adapt the original meaning to fit your holiday.
It worked for all the yuletide holidays.

I suggest Arbor Day, since trees are silent and all. Call it "Like-A-Tree Day" and you've got a double meaning that covers both the old and new holidays. The only problem is nobody knows when Arbor Day is.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned martyrdom as a viable option to creating a new holiday. I'd say a good percentage of them involves an untimely death related to a personal yet justifiable cause.

Veterans day
Easter/Christmas
mlk day
Memorial day

I'm guessing there are more.

Be one with your own self and you will achieve peace and harmony. Go ahead and give yourself a threat. You deserve it.

Start a holiday like all the religions do:

Claim a date
Give it a name

To get conversions, claim a date that's already in use.

That's the last thing I want is herd mentality. That's why it's not founded on commercialism like the rest of the holidays. (Now I know it wont survive:-() Anyway, I wanted it to be public so that, maybe if I get enough people doing it, I can make an impact. I know that one person can make an impact, but I like it when a lot of people do.
