View Full Version : [SOLVED] Cannot set 1920x1080p as correct default resolution

Hi all,

Having a nightmare and need some help. I recently upgraded the be/fe box and have transferred the database/recordings etc all ok.

The old system ran a nVidia 9400GT connected by HDMI to an AV receiver and then to the TV. The new system runs a GT220 connected the same way to the same receiver/TV combination. I thought I could just copy the xorg.conf (modified where required to suit the new set up) and I should be good to go outputting 1080p.

Well, thats not the case...

I've tried adding modelines for 1920x1080, and that resolution is initially set (only in interlace), but in every case it converts to 1280x720(p) at the very end.

So to my question; how can I force the output of a 1920x1080p signal? This is driving me nuts...

Here's my xorg.conf file. I note that I have an Option line in the Screen section that calls out preferred screen resolutions. I believe xorg starts with the first called out resolution in your Screen section. If it works, it stays at that resolution, otherwise it drops to the next one. I am running an Acer LCD monitor capable of 1920x1080. Every time I boot it goes to 1920x1080.

Hi neutron,

I tried using the 'Option' line similar to yours but it actually reduced the resolution to 640x480.

I have saved the EDID for the TV and used the CustomEDID option but it doesnt seem to honour it like it used to in the old setup.

I still can't work ou why the resolution gets set to 1920x1080i but then immediately reverts to 720p.

I've noticed that my mythbox sometimes fails to correctly detect the tv as a monitor, which will cause it to incorrectly set the resolution. If I restart the X-server a couple times (by pressing Alt+SysRq (or Print Screen)+k) solves the issue.

I had a similar problem with my BE/FE.

After reboot my display resolution was no longer 1080p. The xfce "Display" gui was mistakenly set to 1024x768. No matter what was changed in nvidia-setings or my xorg file it always reverted back to the lower resolution.

I'm not sure if this is the same problem but it might be worth a look.

I've just checked the Xfce Display GUI and it does say 1280x720. However it wont let me change the resolution. 1920x1080 is an option but clicking 'Apply' doesn't do anything...any ideas?

Weird... I'm able to apply changes through the display gui, even over VNC. I'm using Mythbuntu 10.04 64bit.

Random. thatsig: I used your "metamodes" Option and restarted which defaulted to a 1080i resolution (an improvement) so opened nVidia-Settings again (the Xfce display GUI still didnt allow me to change the resolution) and switching to 1920x1080 50Hz switched the display to 1080p. I previewed the new configuration, copied and pasted the new metamodes line to my xorg.conf, rebooted and hey presto...1080p! I'm sure I have already tried that option but hey if it works, it works.

So here's my new xorg.conf:
