There is an opensource point of sale software "Openbravo POS". You can download it from here

I don't know but maybe ZBar bar code reader (http://zbar.sourceforge.net/): "ZBar is an open source software suite for reading bar codes from various sources, such as video streams, image files and raw intensity sensors."

Thanks for sharing, but would you please kindly offer some links to what you think is a good Java (http://www.barcodelib.com/java_barcode/main.html) barcode reader (http://www.barcodelib.com/csharp/barcode_reader_csharp.html)?

If a post is older than a year or so and hasn't had a new reply in that time, instead of replying to it, create a new thread. In the software world, a lot can change in a very short time, and doing things this way makes it more likely that you will find the best information. You may link to the original discussion in the new thread if you think it may be helpful.
