May want to wait before I let that one go :-)

you can go ahead if you wish and update unity to 'unity 3.2.8' (libnux will be updated
I still have a few other updates not ready to be done but the new unity is up and running fine.
(if you're on the 0ubuntu4 compiz you may still need to employ a workaround when using the Desktop login.

I think I'll update compiz to the 4 and see if anything has improved - I copied the 0ubuntu3 set out of archives so quite simple to downgrade if it's still borked

Yes, the newer Unity package wasn't there a few hours ago :-)
I've run the updates now. All ok except for compiz still not starting at boot.

Went ahead and updated compiz - still broken for desktop login.
No response yet to bug on -or to the additional comments to bug that caused this
edit - no need

While i think your workaround is ok (prior to the patch that was just removed being applied I used something similar, though implemented as a start up script

In general though I think the unity login is still a bit 'fragile', so here prefer to down grade

Yes, I thought about setting compiz --replace as a startup application, but I was thinking it will be fixed soon :-)
Actually I have another defect now in another thread.
