View Full Version : [xubuntu] Very slow wired network transfer speed?

Hey everyone, I've got an issue with files transferring very slowly over a wired 100Mb network; only when the action is initiated by my Xubuntu machine. To test this I am using my MBP (Gb ethernet) running OS X 10.6, as the 2nd network share, both are using smb shares with the Xubuntu shared folder configured using Samba GUI.

Transferring to/from the Xubuntu machine when using the MBP to navigate and transfer the files nets me a speed of ~9.6MB/s, which is all I really expect from the Xubuntu Eee netbook's 100Mb adapter.

Transferring to/from the Xubuntu machine when using Thunar (using fusesmb) to navigate and transfer the files nets me ~5MB/s down, and ~2.5Mb/s up to that same MBP.

Anyone have any idea what may be causing this? I think I'm right in saying it isn't really a hardware/driver issue since sending the transfer request from the MBP gives me full throughput. I can't seem to find another solution other than different hardware, which obviously isn't an option on a netbook.

Any suggestions? TIA
