I am new in ubuntu and i have a problem with detecting PC in LAN. I have installed ubuntu 1(lucid lynx)10.4 to four PCs in our school. I have connected it to router. All four PCs can connect and browse internet but cannot detect each one in the local network. I have edited already the network connections. Each one has unique IP address. However, after several trial of connecting to PC within the LAN, still i failed to detect local PC.

How exactly are you trying to discover each pc over your local network. Usually you would need some kind of protocol like ssh, nfs or samba to discover other pc's over a local network.

I have'nt tried any protocols you mentioned because i do not know how to do it. All I did was to edit the IP address and work group. Can you elaborate further the ways of doing it. I really just need to have it for file sharing. Thanks and more power.
