Hi,

I am new to Linux and I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook.

The problem I am facing is the left menu launch bar is not appearing when I startup my machine.

The top and bottom menus appear after running gnome-panel in a terminal, but it does not fix the left had side launchbar.

If i click in the area where the launch bar is I can start some applications, and sometimes the bar will flash ever so briefly.

I am really excited to move away from Microsoft, but I wont be able to until this last piece of the puzzle is fixed.

I would really appreciate any help that anyone can offer

My system details are as follows:

That's a strange problem indeed.. first of all, congrats on starting a move on moving away from Gates and Windows :) U won't regret that, believe me.. believe in the Ubuntu community. U have any prob, just ask Ubuntu. :)
BACK TO PROBLEM:
Go to SYSTEM>PREFERENCES>MONITORS and select the correct resolution. If u are using the netbook desktop.. I suggest u have a look in the Desktop UI that u can select from the DROP-DOWN menu from the login screen.

Don't get bothered.. if the problem exists.. let us know. Just don't misunderstand Ubuntu.. that problem of urs is very uncommon indeed.. :\
