View Full Version : [other] P4 670 and DRR2 800???

I just acquired a 3.8 GHz P4 670 (800 MHz FSB). My old motherboard finally took a dump and I ordered a new one. I currently have a 1.8 GHZ E4300 Core 2 Duo (able to OC to 3 GHz stable) and 2 gigs of DDR2 800 left over from my system build. I was hoping to use the P4 as a cheap upgrade in speed. My question is that would my P4 handle running DDR2 800? Or will I have to just stick with my Core 2 Duo? I did order some DDR2 533 just incase.

You should stick with your E4300. It's a lot faster than any old P4.
Apart from that, CPU's without integrated memory controllers doesn't care what kind of memory they use. It's chipset dependant. And memory modules can always run at lower speed, if the motherboard doesn't support their native speed, eg. 800 mhz memory will run 533 mhz or even lower.
