O.k so I received an infraction today, asked about it in the absolute beginner talk, and once again received a warning that I can't talk about infractions in that location. A forum staff said "Posting about receiving an infraction about breaking the CoC is not clever. The thread is now in the jail - do not do so again or I will put you on moderation." Also "The place to talk about things like infractions is the Resolution Centre in the Forum Feedback and Help section." So I came here--- looks like I received the infraction as I gave two links of torrents in my post and I swear I'm sorry for that and I won't post any illegal content again.... my question is... if I give torrent links/rapidshare links which contains free and distributable material....will I still receive infraction? Also it said the infraction is worth 1 point....what's the meaning of that? Also do u intend to punish people if they do unintentional mistakes? For example I asked these questions in the ab. beginner talk as I didn't know about this place, and just for that unintentional mistake I received warning that next time I do that I will be banned!

Now please don't ban me or give me another infraction for this post, please.I've already started feeling uneasy in ubuntuforum.

Here's the post that caused the infraction...

U can download the torrent in this link..."http://!@#$%^&*(*&^%%^.html"---It's a book named "#$%^&k".
Though it might be illegal:-\"

P.S. Also u may try this link---"http://!@#$%^&*(*&^%e". Though it's a bit old.(and illegal too)

I've removed the original links and the name of the books in case once again I receive another infraction.

Here's the link of the infraction..."http://ubuntuforums.org/private.php?do=showpm&pmid=1457094"

And here's the link of the original thread.."http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1630940"

P.S---Also don't u think a person should receive a warning instead of an infraction for his/her first mistake?

The action taken by the 2 staff members was the appropriate action.

The fact that you knowing and willingly posted a link to an illegal download for the item in question is why you received an infraction rather than a warning. The 2nd time you posted this, you only received a PM rather than a further infraction. (Note that you weren't told you would be banned, rather that you would be put on moderation, the 2 are very different).

As for posting links to torrents - if the item in the torrent is legal (for example, many linux distributions have torrents as recommended download methods), then you would not receive any form of warning or infraction.

Thnx for reply joeb, now I feel a little easier. What is moderation, then?

Moderation would mean that your posts would have to be approved by a forum staff member before appearing on the forum for all to see

O.k. Thnx once again for replying. But what was infraction worth 1 point? What kind of point is that? Is that the no. of posts I have gets minus one?!!

Or should I say.... does that mean my no. of beans decrements by 1?

Infractions don't affect your post count. They are also only visible to yourself and the forum staff.

The infraction you received will not change the way your account works, but will hopefully serve as a reminder to stick to the Code of Conduct :)

At 10 points you will be on moderation, meaning your posts will need to be reviewed by forums staff.

At 15 points you will not be able to use the account (banned)

Infractions have an expiration time (may be "never" in some cases).

We do not allow multiple accounts to avoid or circumvent this system.

Infractions are an opportunity to raise yoru awareness of the Code of conduct, give a user feedback, and allow an opportunity to conform to the CoC or if you prefer close the account (if you find you are unable to abide by the CoC)

http://ubuntuforums.org/index.php?page=policy

Also, you agreed to abide to the CoC when you registered your account.

Then how to know if my infraction has expired or not?):P

The message you received when you got the infraction will tell you whether it expires or not. If it is set to expire, the message will tell you how long the infraction will last, from the date you received it.

Note that an expired infraction will remain on your profile, but is not visible to the public.

Hey, it doesn't say when it will expire!! here's the message... Here I copy-paste the entire message...

Also "Posting about receiving an infraction about breaking the CoC is not clever".Why is that? Why my thread was put in jail, just because I posted something about my infraction in ab beginner section? What's wrong in that?

The infraction is set to expire December 26 th.

With that I think you are starting to beat a dead horse. I think your question has been asked and answered and support the actions of the staff.
