Hi - I was wodering if anyone has a laptop running a nvidia geoforce gt425m graphics card, i'm thinking of buying a laptop with one but none of the wiki sites confirm ubuntu compatibility.

I have a new Asus N43JF with that card.

I'm having problems with installing the Nvidia drivers but the open source Nouveau drivers worked well.

So far I haven't been able to make the Nvidia drivers work

The Nvidia drivers in Ubuntu 10.10 are version 185 and keeps being so. If the GT425m isn't recognised by the driver, and it's a simple matter of mathing PCI id's, it won't work. The latest from nvidia is 260. This doesn't mean is really old, Nvidia just like really high version numbers. Anyway, you can use these instructions to get the latest driver: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-install-nvidia-260-19-12-drivers-in-ubuntu-10-1010-04-using-ppa.html

I've already tried the latest driver from Nvidia and it still doesn't work.

No idea what the problem is.

Thanks for your comments, so to clarify there is full 3D support and acceleration from the open source Nouveau drivers without and issues, i.e. no crashing, freezing etc..

Thanks Again.
