View Full Version : [ubuntu] Optical SATA-drive doesn't work

November 21st, 2010, 02:25 PM
I've currently built a htpc running ubuntu 10.10 x64 desktop. The problem is that my LG CH10 BLU-RAY optical drive doesn't work once booted into ubuntu. While in BIOS I can open the drive and such but not when I'm in ubuntu. I believe it has something to do with that it's SATA and not IDE because the motherboard doesn't classify it as the cdrom drive, instead is it named something like BD-DRIVE SOMETHING. I haven't installed any drivers for this because I can't find any for linux and I don't know if it's necessary. The motherboard I have is a Gigabyte 880gma-ud2h.

Any help is welcome!
(Please take note that I'm relatively new with Linux so please be thorough in your replies)

I recently created a new thread because I found out that the problem wasn't exactly what I described here and therefore I created a new one with an accurate description of the problem. This thread can be found here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10149399#post10149399).
