View Full Version : closely related packages in different packages?

I'm quite new to Ubuntu and just noticed that the package gftp seems to be in universe and gftp-common is in main. I am just curious if there is a reason for this. Why isn't gftp also in main? What does this mean for possible security updates?

(One of the main reason for me to switch from Sarge to Warty is that I would like to use a stable and secure - but alsio modern - desktop system).

Excuse me for asking a such unimportant question but I'm just interested.

Best regards, Jochen

This is just a guess, but maybe there are some parts of gnome that depend on gftp-common.
