Done it!

But downloading large files from youtube.com seems slower than with Vista. Overall web surfing is marginally slower.

Are there any 'obvious' things I can check/tweak to improve things. Currently using a UK Sky Broadband router.

No longer have Vista backup disc so there's no going back!

Which version of Ubuntu did you install? Which wireless adapter do you have?

If you are on 10.10 there have been many posts about slow speeds and either not connecting at all or frequent disconnects. 10.04 seems to have worked most of those issues out already.

Using the old 9.04, which is the version I had at hand.

Router: Netgear. White in colour with no model number. A few years old now.

I think age is the thing here! Old router and no-longer-supported old version of Ubuntu.

Looking at downloading the latest version. Not surprised if there are no interim tweaks that can be applied....
