View Full Version : [xubuntu] google search settings in firefox
November 3rd, 2010, 01:42 AM
I just installed XUbuntu 64 bit 10.10 and like it. I've had a problem since XUbuntu 10.04 that didn't get resolved in 10.10. Using firefox on google search pages for the last couple years I've been changing my search settings to display 100 hits on a page instead of the default of 10. However, these preferences are not being saved anymore in XUbuntu firefox. Any idea why?

Make sure you have cookies enabled: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/enabling%20and%20disabling%20cookies
Also, you can check to see if the cookie from Google with your preferences is being saved: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Deleting%20cookies

figured it out...google changed their search settings page months ago and I didnt't notice till now. Their page will let you choose show 100 items per search, but it doesn't save these preferences if you also have (this seemed to be enabled by default on all my pcs that have ubuntu and mythbuntu on them) enable google instant checked.
So, do not enable the google instant feature in search settings and then choose 100 results per page.
