Shortly after installing Ubuntu on my iMac (see sig) I lost control of my windows. The Min/Max/Close buttons disappeared, I could not drag windows, and many would open over the top left of the menu bar obscuring the Applications, Places, and System menus (I also had power/brightness issues that may or may not be related). Attempting to open the Windows preferences app or clicking on the desktop icon resulted in error messages mentioning 'window manager "unknown" '. Thinking it was something I had done and not getting any response in the Desktop category I nuked & paved it. When it happened again I chocked it up to a bug and decided to install Debian Lenny.

Now x window manager won't configure on Lenny and I'm stuck in CLI purgatory. I've found enough information to lead me to believe it's the xorg config file but knowing that hasn't helped me correct it.

I need a Debian based OS so that I can run BOINC, switching to another distro isn't really an option. Can someone point me to instructions on how to configure xorg for my GeForce FX 5200 Ultra? At this point I don't care if I run Maverick, Lenny, or even Squeeze/Mint (as long as the installation process is within my abilities), what matters is that it's usable.

I can help you to install MintPPC. I know that X should work as Conal reported it to work on the nVidia based iLamp.

See post in the MintPPC forums (http://www.mintppc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=31&sid=0a3c543c151c5cf6916f8d8be1d39e23).
