Corsair CA-HS1 (USB headset) surround support

I have a Corsair CA-HS1 (USB headset) that I use with my Windows gaming PC.
When I plug the headset in the USB, the headset shows up and work great in stereo mode, and the mic is almost better than on Windows.
But, since the headset supports virtual surround, it would be great to have this option in Ubuntu aswell (when watching movies etc.)
I asked Corsair for linux-drivers at their tech-support, but they said they did not have any linux-drivers for the moment.
Is there any other way to activate the virtual surround with help from open source drivers?

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit on a Acer Aspire 5520G laptop.


Bonus question: is there some built-in equalizer in Ubuntu, or some app that is available trough the repos for this purpose? The sound on the headset is a bit "harsh" on the high tones, and i would love some more bass.

I hate to be the guy that digs up an old thread, but I have just got one of these headsets and have the same problem with Ubuntu.

You should be able to work it out anyway, there is a very minor edit to a file page needed.

I just bought a pair myself and find the sound quality WAY better on Windows XP than Ubuntu. :(

However, I've installed Pulseaudio-equalizer and fiddled around with it to make sound a bit more pleasant. Any further advice would be greatly appreciated, though.

Edit: That EQ seems pretty rubbish, I can't seem to fix the sound on these headphones. :(

I'm beginning to regret buying these headphones now because of the lack of surround sound and harsh sounds.

This actually helped me a lot. Not so much with introducing surround sound or making them less harsh (although I think if you just lower the high ends very slightly, by about 3db, it's not too bad). The issue I was having was that my volume was either muted or way too high. It was like there was no gradient. Using the equaliser actually helps make the gradient much wider so there is more of a subtle change.

I too have a pair of these and can completely agree that these headphones sound like absolute garbage in linux.. In windows with the proper drivers they work pretty well but man do they fall flat in linux.

If you want a USB headset that works very well in linux, although it is poorly made and will probably fall apart within a year, my experience with the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Arena is stellar.. The best sound quality I have ever heard in my life out of a headset
