I am having the same problem. When I open disk utility, it sees it, but I cannot access it. Anyone figure this out as of yet?

Found it! Open File Manager, plug in your External Hard Drive and you've got it all right there. Good luck!

Hi ,
I have the same problem as stated above.
My Seagate portable harddisk is not showing up anywhere except at the disk utility.
I'm using ubuntu 10.04.

When i run nautilus in terminal a file browser window opens but i still not able to find the hard disk.
Can any 1 correct me if i'm wrong.
Kindly direct me to the correct method of opening the harddisk.
