View Full Version : [ubuntu] Should I downgrade?

Digging deeper into the Wiki (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MactelSupportTeam) it looks like Lucid hasn't fully been tested on the iMac7,1 yet. While I don't mind beta-testing (it's what I do for a living, actually), I would like to have a fully functioning version of Ubuntu to use. Would I be better off working with Karmic, rather than trying to figure out how to get Lucid functional? I won't wipe Lucid, and would be happy to test any suggestions that people have for making it better, but I do actually want to USE Ubuntu, rather than spend all of my time troubleshooting.

You could try Maverick. 10.10 has a much newer kernel (2.6.35-22). Generally I think you can't say which Version works best. For example I use a MBP 5.5. In Lucid pommed gives me keyboard backlight control. In Maverick nada.
Maybe your best shot is to try it out yourself.

I think most of the issues that I have come across are newbie pitfalls that would have been solved with a good Ubuntu-on-Mac wiki. If I can get my network up and running, I'll probably stick with Lucid for now.

If you need help with installing, do not hestitate to ask.
Do you have problems with wired or wireless network? Because it seems like there are some problems with powermanagment of wlan-drivers on some macs. (haven't found an appropriatesolution yet)

Both wired and wireless are down. You can read my tortured tale of woe here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1604984).
