I'm running Meerkat Maverick, with some old hardware, like stuff that I bought in 2004. For some reason my Ubuntu build keeps crashing. I have a triple-boot with Ubuntu, Win7, and Backtrack4.

Backtrack 4 runs stable. Win7 has to be repaired because something is corrupted. However, with Ubuntu 10.10, my system will do some weird stuff.

For example: If I'm running firefox, it'll crash on me after about 15-20 min of doing something. However, Google Chrome is very stable, and hasn't crashed so far.

Another thing: When I'm downloading packages from the repository, using Synaptic, sometimes after a failed package download, Synaptic will exit. I reopen Synaptic, and I get logged out automatically. It's weird.

My hardware specs:
Processor: AMD Athlon 3200 x64
Motherboard: ABIT NF8
Videocard: Nvidia E6600 AGP
Harddrive: 160 Gb Seagate Barracuda
RAM: 1 GB DDR
PSU: Enermax 330 Watts

I've also gotten weird errors relating to a broken pipe or something, and I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the CPU, GPU, or my build. If I install the GPU drivers, it'll give me a grey login, like I'm logging into KDE, and it won't let me log in past the login screen, unless I do a tty. The system doesn't randomly crash, but it'll lockup sometimes after a failed package download.

Any ideas?
