I just installed Ubuntu on my External HD Via USB... It work as a normal.... Installed all the updates, Upgraded to Version 10.10... After some days of using it.. I just temporarily get offline for some reasons... so, to conserve battery i just turned off the wireless switch... after working, i booted up to ubuntu again. At first i thought that it was only my wireless switch is off. But a big surprise that when i try restarting the system while the switch is on,Still cannot enable the wireless for it... i restarted several times, still no Wireless Internet Connection! And my Windows Partition now was affected too! I can't enable my wireless adapter! So, What is the reason behind this????!!!! The Wireless Connection is greyed out....

this used to happen to me. but it was because ubuntu didn't know how to turn the wireless switch's LED on/off. So it was always off.

So if i hit the switch by accident, it would look normal but the switch would be off.

(the switch was actually a button in my case).

maybe try cycling your switch?
