I have a small netbook. CPU 600 MHz, memory 128 MB, storage 2GB. Currently there is window CE 6 installed and it causing me a number of problems. Could I install Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Edition on this device? All I want is accessing the internet and send emails with it.

Probably not. Those devices tend to be locked to Windows CE. Besides, you don't have enough memory or storage space.

I would give Puppy Linux a try for such a system with minimal amount of ram. I"m not sure how easy it will be to get it to boot on such a device though.

Considering that most/all Windows CE netbooks use ARM CPUs, and Puppy Linux is an x86 distro, probably impossible. For any hope, the OP would need a distro that's available for ARM (such as Ubuntu, but lighter).

Lubuntu's minimum ram required is 128 MB, but you will have to install it with the alternative installer (the graphical installer from the live-cd need at least 160 MB of memory)

A mobile distro perhaps? I know nothing about these devices, but Meego seems perfect.

May be of some interest to you. Maybe start and the end and read backwards, it's 105 pages(!), but it basically gives you an idea of how support for these type of machines is coming along.
