I tried installing Maverick Meerkat Netbook on my laptop, but can't even get into the installation menu. I boot using an external DVD-writer (fully functional), and get the first purple background previous to the installation menu. After that, I get a black screen with blinking cursor, but nothing happens. After a while, the HD activity LED on the netbook goes off, and the CD drive eventually ceases all activity.

I downloaded the "ubuntu-10.10-netbook-i386.iso" image from Ubuntu main page, and recorded it at minimum speed, with verifying data option checked, and all went well. After first failure to install, I burned again, with the same result, and subsequently downloaded the image again, for in case it was a problem with download.

Has anyone else had this problem, or on the contrary, have you been able to install it flawlessly?

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

:)

P.S. I also tried installing from USB stick using unebottin-linux-471, to no avail.

Thanks, sandyd! Will try with current version from the page (unebootin-linux-494), yet that still doesn't explain the problem installing Ubuntu from Cd...

What netbook/laptop do you have? Might be a documented bug/glitch.

It's a Clevo M810P.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/285768

A quick Google search reveals those. The bug is marked as "fix released".

These bugs are for a different model. I found nothing on Clevo M810P. I'll try anything else I can think of and post the outcome. Thanks!
