Hi! I am presently using Linux Mint 8 and I want to access and control my Linux desktop from another Linux machine through the internet.
Do you have a suggested easy to underestand software that I could use? So far I have configured from Preferences>Remote Desktop to allow others to view and control my desktop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

As I was looking in the net for any easy to do software for remote desktop control which is Linux compatible, I stumbled upon Team Viewer (http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx) which is compatible with Linux and also the Ipad. It is easy to install and I don't have to activate the Remote Desktop options in my Linux machine. you just have to make a link between your Desktop and another PC by a password and your good to go. No setup necessary with your firewall, router, etc. Best of all, it's free! :)
This was what I was looking for.

Great find. An alternative would be vncviewer or if you just need the terminal and your on a winbox, try putty or something similar.

I have tried VNC viewer but what I got was only view my desktop and not remote controlling it. Got frustrated with it coz I still need to configure the firewall, port forward my router, configure the remote desktop and internal and external ip addresses. And more I had to register my dynamic ip address to dyndns so I can access my PC anytime even if my external ip address changes. For me it's too much of a hassle.
Team Viewer is so easy that even a non IT can configure it easily. This was enough for my simple needs. I don't need to do some hardcore fixes in my desktop anyway while I'm out.

There is a Remote Desktop Viewer installed, called Vinage. It might be called remote desktop viewer.

Thanks for the tip I'll try to experiment on that considering that my host Machine is already set-up for remote access.

Awesome! First time I saw iPad - Ubuntu making sweet love.
I haven't tried Team Viewer yet so I can't compare the 2, but yeah, vnc does need some configuration and is ideal if you have a static IP.

That's the problem with my set-up coz I have a dynamic IP address and I have to register to dyndns to constantly update my IP address if I'm going to use VNC. The free Team Viewer app though is a tad slower than say Logmein for Windows but so far it does it's job. It needs a little getting used to. I dunno with the paid Pro version though.
I have read that if Compiz is activated in your Linux desktop you can just view the desktop but not remote c ontrol it.
