I am following the instructions in the above link which requires the installation of samba and winbind and was wondering if winbind is included in samba. The above link suggests that they are 2 separate packages. This is also backed up by similar howtos and in the synaptic package manager winbind shows as not installed.

When i look at the samba manpage (http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/lucid/man7/samba.7.html), winbindd is listed. When i read this i thought winbind must be installed when i typed "sudo apt-get install samba".

Does the samba in "sudo apt-get install samba" refer to the entire samba suite talked about in the manpage
or is the winbind package not the same as the winbindd referenced in the manpage
or what am i missing?

How can i find out what is installed when i type something like "sudo apt-get install samba"?

Thanks very much in advance.
